Sleepers Wake] by Barry Jones

Just as the industrial revolution rattled the foundations of 18th- and 19th-century society, so today's high-technology revolution is sure to have an equally profound effect on people and employment in all advanced societies. But will these changes enhance or degrade the quality of life to come? This third edition of Sleepers, Wake , now with completely updated figures, investigates the impact of past technological revolutions on the work process and labor force. Drawing on an eclectic range of sources, the book provides a provocative analysis of work and technology today and suggests a political program for getting the best, not the worst, out of our current technological revolution.

Barry Jones is a retired scientist who has devoted his attention to writing stories. He is a member of the Hendersonville, Tennessee-based Explorastory organization, and has shared his stories at the Tennessee State Museum, Old Rock Castle, Middle Tennessee libraries, and Hope Lodge, a Nashville hostel for cancer patients and their families. His fourth book is The Trash Sifter. Jones' credentials include being selected Tennessee Academy of Science's Industrial Scientist of the Year in 1998, a United States Soccer Federation A license, and induction into the Tennessee State Soccer Hall of Fame in 2003 for his professional coaching achievements at the adult and youth levels. Jones is married with two adult sons and resides in Hendersonville with his wife. They are frequent travelers who adore taking photographs of nature.
