When Football Was Football: Newcastle by Paul Joannou

A collection of photographs of Newcastle United Football Club from the very early days until 1992. It is selected from tens of thousands of images in the "Daily Mirror's" extensive archive. It charts the rise of one of the most talked about football clubs in the English game.
Paul Joannou has for over 25 years been Newcastle United's official historian. First watching the Black'n'Whites during the early '60s, he has written several books on the club, including the acclaimed 480-page centenary history, United: The First 100 Years & More. Also included in Paul's titles are stirring books on the Toon's famous centre-forwards, Shirt of Legends, and on the home of the equally celebrated Toon Army, Fortress St James. He has built up a definitive library on the club's history and also contributes to the club's match-day programme, monthly magazines, DVD and website features. Paul holds the club archive and is the ultimate source of knowledge on the club's lively past and present, from the earliest pioneer days on Victorian Tyneside to the Newcastle United soap-opera of today.
