Mysterious Britain by Homer W Sykes
Throughout the length and breadth of Britain, ancient tribes, druids, Celtic saints, medieval knights, and eighteenth-century landowners have bequeathed future generations a wealth of extraordinary sights, structures, and landmarks. Homer Sykes' superb and evocative photographs record these marvels in full colour while his informative text relates the history, the legends, and folktales that surround them - dancing maidens and unfortunate princes turned to stone in Devon and Cornwall, water made holy be the gilded skull of Saint Teilo in Wales, and the witch who milked the giant cow in Mitchells Fold, Shropshire. Some sights are enigmatic due to their antiquity, and some are remarkable for the precision of their construction and their elaborate ingenuity - but all are mysterious and fascinating treasures of British heritage.
Homer Sykes is a well-known freelance photographer and member of the internationally-renowned group, Network Photographers. He has travelled widely on photographic assignments throughout the world, yet his passion is Britain. His books include Once a Year: Some Traditional British Customs and Celtic Britain. He is the co-author with Roger Protz of The Village Pub, with Godfrey Smith of The English Season, and with Roy Kerridge of The Storm is Passing Over. Homer Sykes lives in London, SW20.
