Hindenburg and Ludendorff were two of the greatest generals of the First World War. At Tannenberg in 1914 their brilliance on the battlefield annihilated one Russian army completely, and drove a second from German territory in disarray. John Lee is an Executive Officer of the British Commission for Military History, an Honorary Research Fellow of the Centre for First World War Studies at Birmingham University, a National Council Member of the Army Records Society and a rank-and-file member of the Western Front Association and the Gallipoli Association. He is well known as a writer, lecturer and battlefield tour guide specialising in the operational history of the First World War. He works in publishing, lives in London and Northern Ireland, and is married to Celia, a fellow historian and biographer.
