Dragonology by Ernest Drake
A #1 New York Times bestseller! For true believers only, a lavishly illustrated reproduction of a legendary volume by the world's most distinguished dragonologist. Don't let it fall into the wrong hands!
Do you believe in dragons? Now, for the first time, the long-lost research of renowned nineteenth century dragonologist Dr. Ernest Drake is presented in all its eccentric glory, happily bridging the gap between dragon legend and fact. The meticulous Dr. Drake assigns Latin names to various dragon species, ruminates on why dragons are able to speak, speculates on how they could fly, and explains the true purpose of their notorious hoarding habits. Here are just a few of DRAGONOLOGY'S fascinating features:
-- Novelty elements throughout, including tactile samples of dragon wings and dragon scales, as well as a packet of dragon dust.
-- Booklet of dragon riddles (indispensable to the burgeoning dragonologist)
-- Sealed envelope containing a powerful dragon-calling spell
-- Embossed faux leather cover with red and silver foil, encrusted with three dragon gems
In his afterword, Dr. Drake reveals that one of the crucial goals of dragonologists is to preserve the magnificent creatures of their study wherever possible - a goal this tongue-in-cheek volume most affectionately achieves. An incomparable gift for secret dragonologists everywhere!
According to legend, Dr. Ernest Drake lived in St. Leonard's Forest, Sussex, England, in the late 1800s and to have published Dragonology in 1895 in a very restricted edition of 100 copies. Dr Ernest Drake, a prominent dragonologist and a founding member of London's Secret & Ancient Society of Dragonologists, was determined to bring the study of dragons under the rising canopy of nineteenth-century natural sciences. He was certain that dragons existed, and his notes indicate that he had plenty of experience with them. Only one copy of Dragonology is known to have ever been seen in public, having been discovered in the basement of a secondhand bookstore in London in 1987.
A note, dated 1904, sent to an anonymous apprentice accompanied the book. The meticulous work of Dr. Ernest Drake has been authentically replicated in this one-of-a-kind volume. Douglas Carrel, Chief Draughtsman: A Scotsman by birth, Douglas Carrel was a well-known dragonologist who frequently accompanied Dr Drake on his more profitable trips. In a letter to the editor from Constantinople, he writes, It is with great honour, and not a little pride, that I offer my assistance to the compilation of this very meritorious collection.
