The Day of the Jackdaw by Jo Simmons

Village newcomer Alex must vanquish a vicious feathered foe to finally feel at home in this madcap caper from comedy genius and bestselling author Jo Simmons. Alex is not happy that his family are moving to the village of Noggings. He’s even less happy when he discovers that Noggings is under siege from Graham, a vicious jackdaw that has been terrorising the locals, dive-bombing kids in the school playground and targeting dog walkers and picnickers. As he tries to settle in to his new home, can Alex find a way to dodge the flapping fiend and learn what’s really behind these angry avian attacks?

"A fantastically funny, warm-hearted and empathetic adventure about overcoming fears, belonging and acceptance … a deliciously delightful tale of mischief and mayhem, flying high with heart and humour" – Book Craic

“A great read to help children see that sometimes they need to give a change in situation time, or look at things differently because the cause of their worries is not as big or important as they first thought it was." – Mrs Sydney's Famous World's Smallest Library, blog

Jo Simmons is the author of several hilarious books for young readers including Lollies Book Awards-shortlisted I Swapped My Brother on the Internet, My Parents Cancelled My Birthday, and I Stole My Genius Sister’s Brain. Jo began her working life as a sub editor on magazines in London and later became a freelance journalist. She started writing for children when her two boys were young and hungry for daft and silly stories to make bedtime more fun.
