Gertrude Jekyll and the Arts and Crafts Garden by Gertrude Jekyll
This book, first published in 1912 by "Country Life", contains the substance of a legend, when the Arts and Crafts Movement had evolved into country house architecture and then found expression in the making of gardens. Both Gertrude Jekyll and Lawrence Weaver were working on "Country Life" in its early days under its founder and owner, Edward Hudson. Lawrence Weaver was an architect, the Architectural Editor of "Country Life", with an immense eye for detail and the intricacies of fine craftmanship. Gertrude Jekyll was art school trained, and into her second life as a gardener. In collaborating to write this book, the two authors found an area of common ground and revelled in their mutual intuitive, artistic and historic gardening ideas. For its craftmanship and planting relationships, as well as in its use as a practical handbook, useful for the restoration of gardens, readers of this book should find it no less pertinent to the present than when it was first published.SKU | Non disponible |
