The Scales of Justice by Sir John Mortimer

n May 2005 Penguin will publish 70 unique titles to celebrate the company's 70th birthday. The titles in the Pocket Penguins series are emblematic of the renowned breadth of quality of the Penguin list and will hark back to Penguin founder Allen Lane's vision of good books for all'. John Mortimer has not only successfully juggled the roles of barrister and author in his life, but he has also combined them in his brilliant comic stories about Horace Rumpole all of which are published by Penguin. Mortimer has also written wittily about the attendant pleasures of a life well-lived, and in The Scales of Justice we are treated not only to one of Rumpole's finest cases but also to some of the author's own very personal recollections.
John Mortimer is a novelist, playwright and former practising barrister. He has published several collections of Rumpole stories, four volumes of autobiography, and a trilogy of political novels (Paradise Postponed, Titmuss Regained and The Sound of Trumpets). He received a knighthood for his services to the arts in 1998.
