R C Osborn started college in 1957, but his education was cut short by the Vietnam War. He served in the United States Navy at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. After an honorable discharge he attended the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, and received his commercial and instrument pilot's license. He flew for Northwest Airlines for thirty-three years, three months, and three days, retiring as a captain on the 747-400. Osborn traveled extensively, and 'Til Death Do Us Part is based in part on his experiences. After retiring he received a cum laude degree in creative writing at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. He currently lives in Edina, Minnesota, with his wife Tish.
