Anything for a Vote by Joseph Cummins
Character assassination in presidential politics is as American as apple pie. "Anything for a Vote" is a whimsical look at 200+ years of dirty tricks and bad behavior in presidential elections - from John Adams to present day. In the tradition of our popular "Secret Lives of the U.S. Presidents", this book is another rollicking ride through American history. It's also a valuable reminder that history does repeat itself, that lessons can be learned from the past (though usually aren't), and that even some iconic American figures are not above reproach when it comes to the dirtiest game of all - presidential politics.
Joseph Cummins is the author of War Chronicles: From Chariots to Flintlocks, War Chronicles: From Flintlocks to Machine Guns, History's Great Untold Stories, and Anything for a Vote: Dirty Tricks, Cheap Shots, and October Surprises in U.S. Presidential Campaigns. He has also edited two anthologies for Lyon's Press, Cannibals: Shocking True Stories of the Last Taboo on Land and at Sea and The Greatest Search and Rescue Stories Ever Told, and written a novel, The Snow Train. He lives in Maplewood, New Jersey.
