BB Remembered by Tom Quinn

When in October 1990 at the age of 85, BB (Denys Watkins-Pitchford) died he was generally recognised as the grand old man of English countryside writing. He wrote about travel, fishing and about wildlife both from a shooting man's point of view and increasingly as a dedicated conservationist. BB the writer and professional artist is well known but less well known is BB the man. The book is not in any sense a biography. Instead it is an attempt to recall BB's own memories of his life as well as the memories of some of those who knew him. It is an impressionistic portrait of a man who left a body or work - books, paintings and illustrations - that is unique.
Journalist and author, Tom Quinn has written books on everything from fishing, eccentrics and antique collecting to early aviation and the First World War. A lifelong fan of BB, he came to know the great man well in this last years. Tom has worked on publications from The Times to Trout and Salmon magazine, where he was Assistant Editor. Edited the Countryman for four years and is now the Editor of Country Landowner magazine and his most recent book is Heaven Upon Earth (Swan Hill 2005).
