The Birdwatcher's Pocket Guide to Britain and Europe by Rob Hume

This is the most compact and concise guide to the 430 species of birds that live in or regularly visit Britain and the rest of Europe. It is the only truly pocket-sized field guide. There are at least six illustrations of each species and Peter Hayman's unique painting style brings the birds to life. The well-researched text in the form of captions and annotation tells you all you need to know to be able to identify correctly different species. Symbols show at a glance in which habitats each bird can be found and at what time of year each is present - both essential factors for correct identification. Differentiating between one species and another could never be made simpler. This guide is the essential companion for taking into the field wherever you go birdwatching in Britain and Europe.
Peter Hayman is one of the best-known and most authoritative ornithologists, bird artists and authors in Europe, renowned for his uniquely meticulous approach to bird illustration. His previous books include the best-selling Birdwatcher's Pocket Guide (Mitchell Beazley), Shorebirds of the World (Helm) and The Illustrated Guide to the Birds of South Africa (New Holland/Straak). He lives in Suffolk. Rob Hume has been editor of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds award-winning Birds magazine since 1989. He has written several ornithological books including Discovering Birds, Observer's Birds, Focus on Birdwatching, and Birds by Character. For 10 years he was a member and Chairman of the national British Birds Rarities Committee that scrutinises reports of rare birds in Britain, and in 1973 he discovered a new species for Britain, the American ring-billed gull.
