Munro Leaf was the author and illustrator of dozens of children's books. He is best known for The Story of Ferdinand, first published in 1936 and a bestseller ever since. Many famous artists have served as illustrators on his books, including Robert Lawson, Ludwig Bemelmans, and Theodor Seuss Geisel (also known as Dr. Seuss). Leaf also penned the charming non-fiction series for children concerning manners and behavior that was republished after a hiatus, including the titles How to Behave and Why, Manners Can Be Fun, and How To Speak Politely. Leaf died in 1976 at the age of 71.
