Ellie and the Butterfly Kitten by Gillian Lobel
Ellie is staying with her grandmother for a few days while her mother is in hospital. One morning, when Ellie and Nanna are walking along the beach, they find a lost kitten, which they take him home and look after. Ellie is so sad when the kitten has to go back to his mother, but comes home to find her own mother is there waiting for her. A warm atmospheric picture book about a close relationship between a small girl and her grandmother and the joy that is brought by being reunited with her mother.
This is Gillian Lobel's first book with Orchard. Her previous picture book Starlight (Tamarind) has been used as part of a literacy pilot scheme in Leeds. She has retired from teaching, and lives near Leicester with her husband. Karin Littlewood studied at Newcastle and Manchester and has since worked with many publishers. Recent favourite titles include Billy's Sunflower (Little Hippo) and Swallow Journey (Zero to Ten). She lives in London with her partner.
