Everybody Got a Gift by Grace Nichols
An anthology containing many old favourites and some wonderful new poems. The poems in this book are a celebration of all the best qualities in humans and in nature. They are gathered under such headings as: Everybody got a gift, World out there and Good old days. "An impressive and substantial work." Books For Keeps "The poems captivate with the lilting liveliness, humour, observation and thoughtfulness we expect from Nichols." TES "A fantastic collection." BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, who also interviewed Grace in June 2005.
'A collection of old and new poems in Grace Nichols' usual confident style, which draws on her childhood in Guyana and life in Britain to produce poems full of vitality and colour' Valerie Bloom. Junior Education (October 2006) "Grace Nichols has a subtle technique, a gift for half-rhyme and a way with a pun that shows a respect for poetry and children that isn't present in other books." The Times Educational Supplement (29 September 2006) "a tremendous treasure trove. Grace Nichols is one of those few poets who are consistent in never, ever, selling short a young readership...The fine illustrations help to make this another essential purchase". The School Librarian (October 2006) "a heart warming celebration of the richness, diversity and fun both of life, and of language... The poems in this collection will be read aloud, enjoyed and revisited by children of all ages." www.writeaway.org.uk (December 2006)
