Gareth Owen was born and raised in Ainsdale, Lancashire. He tried a number of professions before becoming a lecturer at Bordesley College, Birmingham and beginning to write poetry. He has also written novels, plays and musicals and tried his hand at acting and directing. He reads his own work regularly in schools but also enjoys reciting the work of other writers in colleges and Arts Festivals up and down the country. He reads regularly for the BBC and for two years he presented Radio 4's long running Poetry Please.
