H. Balfour Gardiner by Stephen Lloyd
This is the first study of the life and music of Balfour Gardiner (18771950), a composer of some distinction and a generous patron of British music. He made possible in a war-torn England the first performance of Holst's The Planets, and was a close friend of Delius, the plight of whose last years forms a tragic undercurrent to this book.
Lloyd, Stephen: - Stephen Lloyd is curator of the Derby Collection at Knowsley Hall, the historic family seat.
