Handbook of Pharmacy Healthcare by Robin J Harman
This work, one of a series designed to replace the "Pharmaceutical Handbook" (1980) and the "Pharmaceutical Codex" (1979), aims to provide pharmacists with all the information they need for effective practice. It recognizes the importance for pharmacists of a thorough background knowledge of the diseases for which drugs are administered. The book is laid out along the same body system classification lines as the "British National Formulary" (BNF), with which many pharmacists are familiar. In discussing the treatment of diseases, the "Handbook" avoids reference to specific drugs, but instead refers the reader to the appropriate section in the BNF. Part A describes in detail the range of diseases for which medicinal treatment may be indicated and Part B shows how pharmacists can best use the information from Part A to to respond effectively to symptoms and to inform and advise patients. Particular emphasis is laid upon the problems encountered by the elderly and the very young. At the same time, the need to communicate with, and listen to, patients is stressed. Part B also contains a directory of self-help organizations which can provide support for patients managing their own conditions. Part C offers a quick reference guide aimed at helping readers to differentiate between the symptoms of potentially serious diseases and those of relatively minor illnesses. Part D comprises a glossary of medical terms.| SKU | Unavailable |
