Joseph Kassabian was born and raised in the Metro Detroit area of Michigan and enlisted in the U.S. Army in December of 2005 at the age of 17. He served multiple combat tours in support of the Global War On Terror, including the one covered in this book. In 2013, he exited the Army with an Honorable Discharge and began a career in writing.
