The Nuts and Bolts of Writing by Michael Legat
Designed for would-be authors who want to improve their chances of publication, and especially for those who have difficulty with such matters as punctuation, spelling, grammar and the choice of words. The second part of the book is concerned with the preparation of a typescript, market research, submissions, contracts and many other subjects related to the professional approach to writing. The advices which the author gives stem from his long experience both as a publisher and a writer. Legat has also written "An Author's Guide to Publishing".
Michael Legat was born in London and educated at Whitgift School, Croydon. He joined the Publicity and Production Departments of the Bodley Head in 1941, and apart from three years service in the Navy, stayed there for nine years. In 1956 he was appointed Editorial Director of Corgi Books, following which he held the same position with Cassell & Company. Since 1978 he has been a full-time author, publisher's consultant and lecturer. He is married, and lives in Horsted Keynes.
