Rare Malts by Ulf Buxrud

The book is an endeavour to document the facts and figures of a formative and exciting segment of whisky history. It is also an attempt to mirror the arduous work and joy surrounding the rise of a cottage trade that became an industry. Its format contains portraits of all the distilleries involved in the compilation of the "Rare malts Selection (RMS)" series; a collection of outstanding examples of the makes of thirty-six legendary distilleries. Each portrait contains histories and technical data, some never published before. The portraits include flavour profiles, tasting notes and comments, A special segment deals with tasting methodology, another gives a deeper insight in whisky nomenclature. In addition the full story of the "RMS" series is told in detail.
Ulf's first contact with alcohol was at the European Club in the city of Abadam in Persia at the age of 15, the fluid was the then famous blend of whiskey 'Black and White, the infatuation was instant. By the early 80's Ulf's cellar in his native Sweden had become swamped with Single Malts. After applying the wine tasting technique and the descriptive wine lingo, he systematically explored his accumulated heap of single malts. This all lead to Ulf's infatuation in organised societies, circles and groups centred around not only whiskey, its history, geography, sociology and method of production but also to organise group travels to visit the birth place of the whiskies
