Reading the Landscape by Peter Watson
It is not only what we see but how we see that makes a difference. Peter Watson tackles the often delicate process of interpreting and capturing landscapes in photography. Watson's dialogue is as insightful as his images - challenging us to transform our gaze from that of the casual observer to a skilled artist 'painting with light'. Thus - with patience and a meticulous eye - fields, trees, mountains and rivers become a complex pattern of lines, shapes, colours and textures. This comprehensive guide offers an almost scientific approach to seizing creative opportunities in your photography. Years of experience have prepared Watson with a range of tools and techniques to 'read' the complex text of an environment.
Peter is a contributing photographer with Images Colour Library, and his work appears in books, magazines, travel guides and calendars; on greeting cards, on record, CD and DVD covers; in exhibitions and in print and television advertising. As well as landscapes, Peter undertakes commissioned work for clients, primarily architectural photography, as well as some studio work. He has written two other books for GMC: Light in the Landscape and Capturing the Light.
