Rustington by Mary Taylor

Rustington, a village on the Sussex plain between the South Downs and the sea, has a long history, which has been dramatically transformed over the past century. This book recounts its story, from its earliest inhabitants, and in a wealth of historic photographs – chosen almost entirely from the author’s own collection – it brings its past to life and documents the process of change in vivid, visual images, each carefully captioned. Everyone with an interest in Rustington’s past and the making of the present community will enjoy this very readable and attractive book.
Mary Taylor, only daughter of an old Rustington family, was born in 1930 and has lived in the village all of her life. Educated in Littlehampton, then at Brighton Technical College and at Portsmouth Polytechnic, she married Beverley B. Taylor in 1951 at Rustington parish church. Mary served on the Parish Council through the '80s, during which time she was appointed official historian of Rustington. She and her husband founded The Rustington Heritage Association in 1983 of which, after six years in the chair, she is now life president. Her other publications include four volumes of the series This was Rustington.
