West Country Cruising Companion by Mark Fishwick

First published in 1988 as West Country Cruising, Mark Fishwick's definitive sailing guide for the ever attractive coastline of Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly combines a skilful blend of pilotage and cruising information, enhanced with full colour photography, including many additional aerial views, and a wealth of absorbing local history and general interest. More than one satisfied reader has aptly described the book as "the perfect on-board companion", now reflected in this enlarged eighth edition. For those who plan to head west, this book is more than essential reading - it will enhance your own enjoyment and prove to be a worthy and much used addition to the ship's library.
Written in a relaxed, easy style, it combines a wealth of pilotage information with historical detail and expert local knowledgeThe colour photography, including many invaluable coastal, aerial and approach shots, brings it all vividly to life. (Yachting Monthly) Everything is here to plan a cruise and stay safe in this sometimes unforgiving area on the edge of the Atlantic. I can find no fault with this volume and would find it inexplicable if anyone other than a local skipper undertook any significant West Country cruise without one on board. (Cruising Association) This eighth edition of the West Country Cruising Companion has clearly been a labour of love accumulated over the last 25 years and what a gem it is. It is a must for all those cruising the south coast between Portland Bill and Padstow, whether experienced or not. (Royal Cruising Club)
Born in Exeter and bought up on the River Exe, Mark Fishwick began sailing at an early age and explored the rivers, creeks and harbours of the West Country in his parent's sloop. He moved to Cornwall in 1973 and since then has enjoyed a varied nautical life encompassing commercial fishing, charter skippering in the West Indies, yacht delivery, boatyard work, writing, photography and just occasionally sailing for fun! He has now returned to his roots and lives within sight of the River Exe.
