At Home in the Himalayas by Christina Noble

In 1970 Christina Noble walked through the mountains from Simla to Kashmir and decided to set up a business which would organize walking holidays in the West Himalayas. She has spent half of each year in Manali, at the head of the Kullu valley, ever since. What began as an adventure soon turned into a web of commitments - first she became responsible for the ever-increasing number of people who worked for her, then came marriage, home-making and children. Over the years Manali has changed, and so has she. At Home in the Himalayas is an autobiography and a portrait of Kullu life - of the freedom of high landscapes and the restraints of domesticity, of feasts and weddings, births and deaths.
