English History, 1914-45 by A J P Taylor
This final volume in The Oxford History of England chronicles the period 1914-1945 - three decades largely overshadowed by war and mass unemployment. It was a period that saw at home the formation of a national government, the only genuine incidence of three-party politics, the fruition of campaigns for trades union recognition, women's suffrage, and Irish independence, and abroad withdrawal from the Gold Standard and involvement in collective security.A.J.P. Taylor was born in Lancashire in 1906 and educated at Oxford's Oriel College. He was a lecturer in international history at Oxford from 1953 until 1973, as well as a renowned broadcaster. The Battle for Mastery in Europe 1848-1918 and English History 1914-1945 are two of Taylor's many publications. In 1990, he passed away.
