The Egyptian Book of Living and Dying by Joann Fletcher
Explore Egyptian beliefs, myths and rituals in this beautifully illustrated, highly original work. The ancient Egyptians left behind an astonishing cultural legacy -- a rich body of writings about the quest for immortality and the passage through life, death and the underworld. Artefacts, paintings and burial sites, left behind almost two thousand years after the disappearance of this extraordinary civilization, continue to intrigue us today. The Egyptian Book of Living and Dying is a lavishly illustrated guide to ancient Egyptian wisdom, tracing the journey of the soul from creation to death, and the hazardous voyage that it must make through the Underworld after death in search of eternity. Magic, ritual, the gods and pharaohs, the symbolism of the stars and great battles are key themes in this journey.
One of Egyptology's most exciting writers unfolds the mysteries of ancient Egypt's amazingly diverse belief system in a book that displays a wealth of quotations, including spells from the Book of the Dead
