How to Make Paper Candle-Shades by Polly Pinder
This guide presents a variety of papercraft skills and a wide range of materials to create candle shades for all moods and occasions. A number of ways are suggested to enhance a simple cylinder of plain paper - sticking on leaves, stamps and chess-piece designs. Even the paper labels removed from cans can be recycled into colourful table-pieces. Polly Pinder is the author and designer of the "Home-Made" series - "Home-Made and at a Fraction of the Cost", and the illustrator of "Muck & Magic" which won the 1993 Sir Peter Kent Conservation Book Prize.
Polly Pinder studied graphics at Leeds Art College. Her first job was with a Yorkshire newspaper, and she subsequently worked as a lecturer in graphic design at Wakefield District College. She has written and illustrated a number of books on a variety of other subjects including cake decoration and growing herbs, papermaking and paper crafts. Her illustrations in Muck and Magic were commended when that book won the 1993 Sir Peter Kent Conservation Book Prize. She has also designed bed linen and wallpapers, and the graphics for a wallpaper book based on newly-discovered eighteenth-century wallpapers. Polly now works from her pottery studio creating beautiful, small-batch candle holders and large food platters.
