In a Long Day by David Kindred
This work contains 200 photographs including over 100 scenes of working horses and horsemen, a wide range of threshing and steam traction engine shots, roots and cereal harvesting, shepherds, rural tradesmen and village people. Taken from 1925 to 1933 in Suffolk, they create a vivid portrait of the farm-centred rural life of the time, and they are accompanied by informative captions. The Titshall brothers, Leonard and Ralph, were commercial photographers based in Ipswich. Leonard travelled around the countryside in a motorcycle and sidecar capturing shots of working people as they paused from their labours. Since the book was first published in June 1999, fresh information has come to light about the scenes and people it records. This information has been incorporated in this second edition. One of the most striking identifications is that of Sam Fuller, photographed in 1926 in his working clothes having just started on the farm in which he was to remain for over 62 years. Sam still lives in the village street where he was born 90 years ago.
