Mother and Child Anthology by Shirley Hughes

Shirley Hughes, one of the best-known and loved figures in children's literature, has selected an assortment of her own favourite poems and stories about all kinds of mothers and children, for this special collection. There's a wonderful mixture of treasures old and new for you to enjoy: traditional rhymes, lullabies and characters from the past, like Milly-Molly-Mandy, sit happily alongside contemporary comic verse by top children's poets, like Michael Rosen and Colin McNaughton. With its diverse range of renowned authors -- A. A. Milne, Roald Dahl, Eleanor Farjeon, Philippa Pearce, Anne Fine, Allan Ahlberg and Shirley Hughes herself -- this treasury brings you some of the very best writing there is for children.
Shirley Hughes was born and brought up near Liverpool. She began writing when she had children and her first book was published in 1960. She has illustrated over 200 children's books and in 1984 she was presented with the Eleanor Farjeon award for distinguished services to children's literature. Clara Vulliamy trained in Fine Art at the Ruskin School and the Royal Academy. She lives in Twickenham with her husband and their two children, who provide inspiration for her work.
