Murder Imperfect by Lesley Cookman
Lesley Cookman's bestselling series featuring amateur sleuth Libby Sarjeant is back for its seventh instalment. When sleuth-come-pantomime director Libby Serjeant learns of threatening letters sent to Cy, a friend of her friend Harry, she is furious, but assumes this anti-gay prejudice won't escalate. Despite her anger, Libby is reluctant to get involved - there's a lot going on as she tries to juggle the stress of directing a pantomime at the same time as suddenly having a full house. Her partner Ben has just moved in, and her son Adam has come home with a broken leg. However, when threats lead to murder, Libby and her psychic investigator friend Fran are drawn into another investigation, one with dangerous consequences for them both…
Murder Imperfect is another great murder/mystery in the Libby Sarjeant series - and, imo, the most cleverly plotted yetOld crimes mirror the new ones and Libby, aided by Fran, has to delve into some pretty murky goings-on - both past and present. Some of the scenes really racked up the tension, the red herrings were brilliant - and I thought I knew who'd done it, and why - but I didn't! The links between what seems at first to be a very modern murder and the horrific events in the past are intricately woven - but they all unravel beautifully and tie up tidily at the end. Oh, and the lovely Harry features a lot in this book - which made me very happy! Highly recommended. -- Christina Jones
Like many authors, Lesley started writing stories as a child. After a checquered beginning, including jobs as varied as actor, model, cabin crew and nightclub DJ, she fell into feature writing for publications including Business Matters, Which Computer and Poultry Farmers Weekly. She progressed to short stories for the vibrant Women's magazine market and, following a Master's Degree where she met her publisher, she turned to her first literary love of Traditional British Mysteries. The Libby Sarjeant series is still going strong, and has been joined by The Alexandrians, an Edwardian mystery series. Lesley also continues to work with her local theatre, which often finds its way into her books.
